While We Wait
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:23-25).
The writer of Hebrews gives some good instruction for believers to follow while waiting for the return of our Lord.
1) Hold fast the confession of our hope: At some time you made a profession of hope in the salvation offered by faith in Jesus Christ. Don’t let go of it. Don’t let the uncertainty of the times cause you to weaken in this commitment.
2) Stimulate one another to love and good deeds: Each believer is admonished to incite other believers to love and good deeds. Encourage someone next Sunday to become more involved in the ministry of the Church.
3) Not forsake our assembling together: Don’t use the electronic church as a substitute for assembling with other Christians. We can’t influence other believers sitting at home Sunday morning.
4) Encourage one another: When going to church, see how many believers you can speak to with words that lift up and inspire. As the Lord’s return draws near, these four activities should increase in intensity in a believer’s life.
