Honor God and Parents

The Holy Bible is quite emphatic about the attitude of children toward their parents: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you" (Exodus 20:12). But Jesus says in Matthew 10:37, "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. . . ."

Is Jesus contradicting the Old Testament? No. What He is indicating to us is the possible cost of discipleship. If a choice must be made between family and the Son of God, we must choose the Son. Thankfully, however, most people do not have to make such a decision. If you have godly parents who brought you up in the love of the Lord, do you realize how blessed you are? Your choice was easy.

God wants us to be loyal to both Jesus and our parents. Remember, when you honor your parents, you are practicing the command of God.
