Don't Worry

With the stock market fluctuating wildly, utility and fuel bills sky rocketing, droughts, floods, wildfires and other uncontrollable circumstances, thoughts of concern enter my mind. A quote in Our Daily Bread devotional stated, “If you can worry, you can meditate” so instead of a sleepless night of worry why not begin to meditate on God’s promises to provide for us if we obey and trust Him and His Word. Paul wrote to the Philippian church, “My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). David said, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). Take time to use a concordance and look for God’s provision for us –– that is a profitable study and use of time –– much better than worry.

If we place our trust and faith in reliance on government, our pensions, or insurance, we are on shaky soil and will pass away with the first sign of economic collapse. We must “hide in our hearts” the Word of God and His promises to protect and provide for us both now and in the future. This cosmos (world) is passing away with all that it entails –– only God’s Word and those who know it and Him intimately will be left to populate a new world. Will you worry or meditate?
