Borrowed Stuff

While reading the Scriptures I noticed how often Jesus “borrowed” things. He borrowed the little boy’s lunch and fed 5,000 people. Do you suppose that child was surprised that his lunch was that important?

Jesus borrowed Zaccheus’ house for lunch one day. He borrowed a fishing boat to use as His pulpit when the crowds got too big and began to push against Him.

Jesus borrowed the colt of a donkey for His ride into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. He borrowed the upper room in which to eat His last sacred meal with His disciples that final night of His earthly life.

He “borrowed” Simon’s strength to carry His cross when He was too weak to do so. As a matter of fact He was buried in a borrowed tomb. Not surprising since His mother gave birth to Him in a borrowed stable.

Jesus uses whatever is at hand when He needs to do an important job. Just maybe we have something at hand that He could use if we made ourselves and what we have (which is from Him in the first place) available to Him.

Meditate on that.
